Bed of Roses

Dane’s away breadwinning
Toiling and moiling away
I am young, just married
But loving and caring
You see the wife I am
The mother inside me.

Hold me, hold me in ya’ arms
This is no bed of roses
Don’t show me, the dark side of love
There must be something wrong
Every night I stay awake long
Not as happy as I seem to be
Love is slipping away
I am alone every day.

Take long showers
To wash away the memories
Life’s a struggle I’m aware
But Dane leaving me ain’t fair
Months not coming home
Like there’s no one he’s left behind
Turning his back
On a wife who loves him.

How many days and how many nights
In fright, hold me, hold me in ya’ arms
This is no bed of roses
Don’t show me the dark side of love.
