Ignorant Love

Ivy came back from the bathroom
Her sylphlike body gleaming, garbed in nightgown
And the golden necklace hanging from her neck;
Full of thoughts she ought not to have.

Her lover took her in his arms
And she asked him,
"For how long?"

"Always," answered her lover, meaning his love for her.

Ivy raised her eyes up to him and gazed in silence.
They welled and she began to cry,
"You've always cheated on me?"

No answer came,
His mind bewildered;
And everything screamed distrust
Like the burning tears of that ignorant darkness.
